After a freeze lasting half a decade, India and China are preparing to restart direct air services, according to recent reports. The move is expected to improve connectivity between two of Asia’s largest markets, offering new options for business and leisure travelers. Airlines on both sides are currently in discussions over flight schedules and regulatory clearances, with operations anticipated to begin in the coming months.

The decision comes as part of broader efforts to normalize ties following years of limited exchanges. Prior to the suspension, routes linking major cities such as Delhi, Mumbai, Beijing, and Shanghai had served thousands of passengers annually. Industry observers say the restoration of flights could provide a significant boost to travel and trade flows in the region.

At the same time, China’s travel advisories remain in effect. Authorities continue to urge foreign visitors to exercise a high degree of caution, citing risks that include the potential for detention under national security laws, exit bans, and other legal complications. While visa-waiver arrangements are available for certain nationalities—such as Australians, who may enter visa-free for up to 30 days—entry is not automatically guaranteed at the border.

Travel industry analysts suggest that the resumption of direct flights will likely be welcomed by both the tourism sector and business communities, but caution that regulatory, diplomatic, and security considerations could still affect traveler confidence.
