Thailand is positioning itself at the forefront of Asia’s booming wellness tourism industry, as more international travelers seek experiences that go beyond sightseeing and nightlife to focus on healing, rejuvenation, and holistic health.

According to the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), demand for wellness-focused travel has grown steadily throughout 2025, with spas, yoga retreats, meditation centers, and wellness resorts reporting higher bookings than in previous years. The trend is being driven by both international visitors and a rising number of Thai travelers looking for restorative getaways.

Destinations such as Chiang Mai, Phuket, and Ko Samui have become hotspots for retreats offering everything from traditional Thai massage and herbal therapies to detox programs and mindfulness workshops. Many resorts are also combining modern wellness practices with Thailand’s centuries-old healing traditions, making the country stand out as a global destination for holistic health.

Industry insiders say Thailand’s reputation for hospitality, coupled with its relatively affordable pricing compared to Western wellness centers, has made it especially attractive to visitors from Europe, the Middle East, and North America. “Travelers want more than just a beach holiday,” said Nattapong Sirisak, manager of a wellness resort in Hua Hin. “They are looking for ways to reset, recharge, and reconnect with themselves — and Thailand is perfectly placed to deliver that.”

The government has been quick to support the trend. Earlier this year, the Ministry of Public Health and the Ministry of Tourism and Sports launched joint initiatives to promote medical and wellness travel, highlighting the country’s world-class health services alongside its traditional therapies.

With global tourism increasingly shifting toward well-being and lifestyle experiences, Thailand’s focus on wellness could secure its place as a leader in the sector for years to come.
