Thailand has achieved a remarkable milestone in its tourism sector, welcoming a record-breaking 2.1 million Indian tourists in 2024, a 30% surge compared to 2023, according to the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT). This unprecedented growth has positioned India as Thailand’s third-largest tourism market, contributing significantly to the nation’s economy with tourism revenue of approximately 61.9 billion baht from Indian visitors alone.
The surge in Indian arrivals is largely attributed to Thailand’s visa-free policy for Indian passport holders, introduced in November 2023, which allows stays of up to 60 days. Enhanced flight connectivity, with airlines such as IndiGo, Air India, and Thai VietJet increasing routes and adding over 2.93 million seats in 2024, has further facilitated this boom. Popular destinations like Bangkok, Phuket, and Pattaya have drawn Indian travelers with their vibrant nightlife, pristine beaches, and cultural attractions such as the Grand Palace and the Songkran Festival.
“Thailand’s rich cultural heritage, affordable luxury, and seamless travel experience have made it a top choice for Indian holidaymakers,” said Pattaraanong Na Chiangmai, TAT Deputy Governor for International Marketing – Asia and South Pacific. “We are thrilled to see such enthusiasm from Indian travelers and aim to welcome 2.3 million visitors from India in 2025 through tailored campaigns and partnerships.”
Despite a slight overall dip in international arrivals in early 2025, Indian tourists continue to drive growth, particularly in urban hubs like Bangkok and coastal regions like Phuket, which reported 188.99 billion baht in tourism revenue from January to April 2025. The Thai government’s “Amazing Thailand Grand Tourism and Sports Year 2025” initiative, coupled with infrastructure upgrades and simplified entry processes, is expected to sustain this momentum.
However, travelers are advised to stay updated on health advisories, such as avoiding raw meat in northeastern regions due to a recent anthrax-related concern, and to complete the mandatory Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) starting May 1, 2025, for smooth entry.
With its welcoming culture and diverse attractions, Thailand remains a premier destination for Indian tourists, setting the stage for even greater milestones in 2025.
