Vietnam has broadened its visa-free entry policy, extending the 45-day visa waiver to travelers from 12 countries, as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen its position as one of Asia’s most welcoming destinations.
Under the expanded scheme, visitors from the eligible nations can enter Vietnam without a visa for stays of up to 45 days, a significant step aimed at attracting more tourists and encouraging longer stays. Tourism authorities expect this move to provide a strong boost to international arrivals in 2025, particularly as Vietnam seeks to compete with regional neighbors offering generous entry privileges.
In addition to the expanded waiver, Vietnam has officially rolled out two new visa categories designed to support long-term engagement in the country. The newly introduced “golden visa” program targets investors, high-net-worth individuals, and skilled professionals who can contribute to Vietnam’s growing economy. Holders of this visa will benefit from extended residency rights, streamlined renewal processes, and access to new business opportunities.
Meanwhile, the launch of a dedicated digital nomad visa reflects Vietnam’s recognition of the global rise in remote work. This visa will allow foreign professionals to live and work legally in Vietnam while contributing to local economies, especially in vibrant hubs such as Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, and Hanoi.
Officials say the new policies are part of a broader national strategy to balance short-term tourism growth with long-term economic development. “Vietnam is committed to making it easier for visitors, investors, and professionals to experience and contribute to our country,” said a representative from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
Industry experts believe the changes will strengthen Vietnam’s image as both a travel hotspot and a destination for innovation and investment. With visitor arrivals already recovering to near pre-pandemic levels, the new visa measures are expected to accelerate momentum in 2025 and beyond.
